What is the Jubilee and why is it important?

You shall then sound a ram’s horn to pass through on the tenth day of the seventh month, on the Day of Atonement cause a ram’s horn to pass through all your land

And you shall set the fiftieth year apart, and proclaim release throughout all the land to all its inhabitants, it is a Jubilee for you. And each of you shall return to his possession, and each of you return to his clan.

The fiftieth year is a Jubilee to you. Do not sow, nor reap what grows of its own, nor gather from its unpruned vine.

It is a Jubilee, it is set-apart to you. Eat from the field its crops.

In the Year of this Jubilee let each one of you return to his possession.

And when you sell whatever to your neighbor or buy from the hand of your neighbor, do not exploit one another.

According to the greater number of years you increase its price, and according to the fewer number of years you diminish its price, because he sells to you according to the number of the years of the crops.

And do not oppress one another, but you shall fear your Elohim. For I am YaHUaH your Elohim.

And you shall do My laws and guard My right-rulings, and shall do them. And you shall dwell in the land in safety, and the land shall yield its fruit,a nd you shall eat to satisfaction, and shall dwell there in safety.    Leviticus 25:9-19

The English word – Jubilee – is the Hebrew word “yovel”

yowbel {yo-bale’} or יבל yobel {yob-ale’} apparently from 02986; TWOT – 835e; n m AV – jubile 21, ram’s horn 5, trumpet 1; 27 1) ram, ram’s horn, trumpet, cornet 1a) ram (only in combination) 1a1) ram’s horn, trumpet 1b) jubilee year (marked by the blowing of cornets) (meton)

יבל yabal {yaw-bal’} a primitive root; TWOT – 835; v AV – bring 11, carry 4, bring forth 1, lead forth 1, lead 1; 18 1) to bring, lead, carry, conduct, bear along 1a) (Hiphil) 1a1) to bear along, bring 1a2) to carry away, lead away 1a3) to lead, conduct 1b) (Hophal) 1b1) to be borne along 1b2) to be borne (to the grave) 1b3) to be brought, be led, be conducted

In the paleohebrew, it is “a hand that works, a house [for a family], and a staff [to teach, lead, protect].” My mind immediately is brought to the idea of a clan or family leader picking up the horn and blowing it for the purpose of proclaiming to all his house and all in his care to rise up and take note! We need to move, meet, proclaim something! Like a town crier saying “Hear ye, Hear ye!” and then there is something to announce to everyone.

Why is this important for me today? you might ask. Well, since it is a year in which we will be returning to the land of our possession as promised by our Creator… I don’t know about you, but I would like to know when this time is! Certainly without question I am mightily looking forward and standing upon the Rock of hope and Deliverance to obtain this manifestation of the promise in the world.

And it shall be, when all these words come upon you, the blessing and the curse which I have set before you, and you shall bring them back to your heart among all the gentiles where YaHUaH your Elohim drives you, and shall turn back to YaHUaH your Elohim and obey His voice, according to all that I command you today, with all your heart and with all your being, you and your children, then YaHUaH your Elohim shall turn back your captivity, and shall have compassion on you, and He shall turn back and gather you from all the peoples where YaHUaH your Elohim has scattered you.

If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under the heavens, from there YaHUaH your Elohim does gather you, and from there He does take you.

And YaHUaH your Elohim shall bring you to the land which your fathers possessed, and you shall possess it. And He shall do good to you, and increase you more than your fathers.   Deuteronomy 30:1-5

From Jeremiah

For there shall be a day when the watchmen cry on Mount Ephrayim, ‘Arise, and let us go up to Tsiyon, to YaHUaH our Elohim.'”

For thus said YaHUaH, “Sing with gladness for Ya’aqob, and shout among the chief of the nations. Cry out, give praise, and say,

O YaHUaH, save Your people, the remnant of Yisrae’el!”

See, I am bringing them from the land of the north, and shall gather them from the ends of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, those with child and those in labor, together – a great assembly returning here.

With weeping they shall come, and with prayers I bring them. I shall make them walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they do not stumble. For I shall be a Father to Yisra’el, and Ephrayim – he is My first-born.”    Jeremiah 31:6-9

So when is this date? When have they come and gone in the past and when is the next one?
